Extended Care Updates for the 2022-23 School Year

We are pleased to announce we have reached an agreement with our Shoreline Children’s Center Association that will allow Shoreline Schools to continue extended care for the 2022-23 school year while the district pursues state licensing. State licensing allows eligible families to access childcare subsidies offered by the State of Washington to defray the cost of tuition, which can expand access to extended care to more families in our community. We look forward to offering a licensed extended care program when requirements are met and the state has approved the program’s application, but we do not anticipate this being complete for the coming school year.

Families with students registered or on the waitlist for next year have already received communication via email about this. If you think you should have received communication but did not, please check your junk/spam folder (email sender was Susan Skinner, on June 16).

We anticipate running on-site extended care at all K-5 schools except Echo Lake Elementary and Cascade K-8 for the 2022-23 school year; however, this is dependent on enrollment numbers and staffing availability. (See below for information about Echo Lake and Cascade.)

If you’d like to request district-run before or after care for your child for the 2022-23 school year, please complete the interest form on the extended care webpage. You will receive confirmation that your request has been received, and staff will follow up to let you know if there’s a spot or if you’ve been placed on a waitlist.

To supplement the district-run extended care program, the YMCA again plans to offer licensed extended care at the North City Elementary location. Currently, that site serves students from Briarcrest, Echo Lake, Ridgecrest, and Syre elementary schools as well as Cascade K-8. The YMCA is exploring the option for an on-site, licensed childcare site at Echo Lake Elementary serving Echo Lake and Cascade K-8 students. The YMCA may also have capacity to serve students from Parkwood Elementary at North City through YMCA-provided transportation. For more information and to add your name to an interest list, please visit the YMCA’s Before and After School Enrichment page.

We appreciate the patience of the Shoreline Schools community over the past two weeks, are pleased that this agreement has been reached, and look forward to offering expanded access to extended care to our school district families.
