January 26, 2021 PSAT Canceled
Due to continued COVID-related health restrictions in Washington state, the January 26, 2021 PSAT scheduled at Shorecrest and Shorewood high schools for all sophomores and opt-in juniors has been canceled.
Juniors who planned to take the PSAT for National Merit Scholar eligibility are encouraged to enter the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program with SAT scores instead. To qualify, juniors must:
1) take an official SAT by June 2021;
2) request that College Board SAT program send an official report of your SAT scores to NMSC (code 0085);
3) visit forms.nationalmerit.org/alternateentry immediately to complete the Alternate Entry Form. You cannot be considered in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program unless you complete this online form no later than April 1, 2021;
4) see www.nationalmerit.org for more up-to-the-minute details.
Meanwhile, the tentative March 3, 2021 SAT date for all Shoreline School District juniors at both high schools remains under review.
For the latest news about closures at other SAT testing sites across the country please see https://pages.collegeboard.org/sat-covid-19-updates. Decisions about closures are made based on policies set by local health officials and the College Board. Should restrictions lift, testing opportunities will likely be available later in 2021 for students in the Class of 2022.
Meanwhile, most four-year colleges around the country remain test optional or test flexible for applications. That is why Shorecrest and Shorewood college counselors are recommending juniors who are not interested in the National Merit Scholar program wait for a safe, affordable and accessible test site. Reach out to your high school counseling, college and career office for more details.
