Back to School Information!
2019-2020 Start of School Update
The First Day of School is September 4 for Grades 1-12 and September 9 for Kindergarten
We hope all of our families have had a great summer! We are looking forward to seeing all of our students, staff and families soon. The first day of school is Wednesday, September 4 for grades 1-12 and Monday, September 9 for kindergarten. School calendars have been mailed to all families who were registered by August 1. If you registered your child after August 1 or did not receive yours in the mail, you can pick one up at any school or district office.
Free and Reduced Meal Applications
You can find free and reduced meal program applications inside the calendar that was mailed to you or on our website HERE. Recent media coverage of political issues surrounding immigration status and public benefits have caused us to receive questions about what role immigration status has in the Free and Reduced Meal Program. Simply put, under current U.S. law, no immigration status restrictions exist for child nutrition programs; children may obtain meals regardless of their immigration status. Receiving free or reduced-price meals will not impact their status and the status of their parents. Since free and reduced-price meals qualify as a "non-cash" benefit, receiving them will not affect the immigration status or process in obtaining or changing their immigration status.
Resources Available to Reduce Barriers to School Programs
Shoreline School District is committed to providing a learning community that engages all students regardless of financial barriers. If you need financial assistance to access any K-12 district programs, please contact your school's family advocate (elementary) or your student’s counselor (secondary).
Early Release Wednesdays
Beginning on September 11 there will be a 100-minute early release on Wednesdays when there are five days of school in the week. There will not be early release during weeks when there are not five days of school, such as weeks with holidays or other non-student days. You can learn more about early release Wednesdays, the dates they are on and how the time will be used by staff to support higher levels of student success HERE. You can find the early release times HERE. Please note that there is a difference between Wednesday early release times and half-day dismissal times. Half-days will be held on November 27 (day before Thanksgiving) and June 18 (last day of school) for grades K-12.
Conference Weeks Have Been Set, Release Times During Those Weeks to be Determined
Elementary (K-6) parent/teacher conferences will be held the weeks of November 4th and March 2nd. The exact early release time each day of the week is still being negotiated with the Shoreline Education Association. We will share final details and times for elementary conference weeks once they have been set.
Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbooks
Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbooks have been mailed to all families who were registered by August 1. If you registered your child after August 1 or did not receive yours in the mail, you can pick one up at any school or district office. Please note that the Rights and Responsibilities Handbooks now include our annual Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Opt-Out Notice. The FERPA Opt-Out Form can be requested at any school office.
School Offices Closed on Morning of August 26
All school and district offices will be closed until 10:00 am on the morning of Monday, August 26 to allow all staff to attend our annual Staff Welcome Back Celebration.
Bus Route Mailers and Online Route Info
Bus route postcards with information on bus stops and pick up/drop off times will be mailed to families on August 26. Families can also look up and verify bus stop info for their children at our E-Link system.
