Standing in Solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ Community
This past weekend’s heartbreaking shooting at Club Q yet again brings to the forefront the safety of the LGBTQIA+ community. Too often, this community has been subjected to horrific terror and violence. We grieve the senseless loss of life and the lasting trauma from this incident.
The Shoreline School District stands in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community and acknowledges the reality that this community is facing increasing threats of violence. The kind of hatred that motivates and enables people to commit these acts has no place in our schools or community.
Shoreline schools strive to provide students with optimal conditions to learn and thrive by maintaining an educational environment that is safe and free of discrimination for all students, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, gender expression, gender identity, or sex.
As a school district, we know that education is our primary tool in fighting hatred and discrimination. To help support and make sense of what many of our students, families, and staff are experiencing in light of this attack, this list of resources is being provided:
LGBTQIA+ Support Resources:
The Trevor Project: call 1-866-487-7386, text “start” to 678-678 or chat on The Trevor Project website
TransFamilies.org (parent support groups, a trans youth leadership program, special topics groups, and youth support groups)
If you have a safety concern, you can quickly, easily, and anonymously report it via our anonymous safety tip line.
In this moment and at all times, let us strive to be a community that welcomes, affirms, and celebrates all of our members by demonstrating love, compassion, care, and support of each other.
