2019 Senior Update Letter

2019 Senior Letter PDF 

With the end of the year quickly approaching, we want to remind you of all the events in the weeks ahead. Please take time to read and discuss the content of this letter with your family. If you have comments or questions, please feel free to see any of the 2019 Senators: Torin Coffee, Sophie Corbin, Abbi Currah, or Jane Hailemariam or contact one of the Senior Class Advisors, Veronica Cook & Steve Hirsch, or the Activity Coordinator, Johanna Phillips at (206) 393-4286.

In accordance with the Student Handbook, students with 10 or more tardies in a semester are not allowed to participate in extracurricular events such as Senior Prom and Senior Breakfast. Tardies can be made up by attending Saturday Breakfast Club (up to 15 tardies can be cleared in a 3-hour session on March 30 & May 4). Check Family Access for current tardies.

 

April 4

Caps, gowns, and announcements can be picked up during the Senior Class meeting today, or extended passing and lunch in the Commons. Previous to this date, all fines must be paid at the ASB window in order to receive your cap and gown. Announcements and other materials can be picked up even if you have current fines. After this date, see Ms. Denney to pick up your cap, gown, announcements, or other Jostens items. You must have a cap/gown/tassel & 2019 stole to walk at graduation. If you have not yet ordered yours, you can do so online at Jostens.com. Scholarships are available, see your counselor for details.

 

April 5

Sign-up deadline for Senior Speaker, Caen Laida Performer, and Graduation Performer auditions. Sign up at the Senior Class Meetings or with Mrs. Phillips in M139 by April 5. Auditions for Caen Laida and Graduation Performers are April 16 at lunch and after school and will require you to have the same piece prepared that you intend to use at the actual event. See Mrs. Phillips, Ms. Rozema, or Mr. Caruso if you have questions or cannot audition after school. Mr. Whitling is coordinating Senior Speakers and auditions are April 18 after school in M341. Please prepare a 1-2 minute monologue for the audition – this is not what will be presented at graduation

 

April 16

Graduation and Caen Laida performer auditions at lunch and after school in T130. Make sure you’ve signed up for an audition slot in advance (by April 5) and have prepared your performance piece. See Mrs. Phillips, Ms. Rozema, or Mr. Caruso if you have questions.

 

April 18

Senior speaker auditions after school in M341. Need an audition slot in advance. See notes above under April 5 entry.

 

April 22 – 26

Senior Spring Break: Seniors are invited to participate in academic activities at Shorecrest over Spring Break. We will be offering opportunities for you to finish up with credit recovery courses, complete any outstanding graduation requirements such as High School and Beyond Plan or finishing up Washington State History, and also just provide a space for you to prepare for AP exams or complete current coursework. Hours will likely be from 9 am to 12 pm daily over break. More to come!

 

May 1

FINES MUST BE PAID TODAY!
All fines must be cleared in order to attend Prom, receive an annual, your diploma, and to have your final transcript sent to your college. All library accounts must be current (no overdue materials out).

High School & Beyond Plan and Community Service hours must be turned in to Mrs. Monson today. Signatures required.

Deadline for "Washington State Biliteracy" SEAL on diploma. If you know a language other than English and you've proven proficiency you can be recognized during graduation and have the "Washington State Biliteracy" SEAL on your diploma. Verification forms available in the Counseling Office. 

National Honor Society hours are due to Siri Hulbert in M232.

Senior slideshow submissions deadline. Email submissions to: sc2019pics@gmail.com Submit your top 5 photos from elementary school, middle school, and high school! We will accept more than five photos, as well as photos from families. Our goal is for all class of 2019 students to be in the slideshow; we need YOUR photos to do this! See Abbi Currah with questions.

 

May 2

Guest passes for Prom will be available. Pick up applications in the Activity Office M139 or download from the Activities section of the SC website. They are due no later than May 23 at 2:45 PM. If you have any questions, see Mrs. Phillips.

 

May 8

Order extra Commencement tickets. Each student will receive 10 tickets at the finish of the first graduation rehearsal. Students may begin requesting additional tickets today by filling out a request form (available in the Counseling Office). Forms are due no later than May 31.

 

May 15

Prom tickets will be sold at the ASB window, May 15 – May 30. To purchase tickets and to attend, all fines must be paid and tardies must be cleared to less than 10. Prices are TBD but likely around $15. Can’t afford prom tickets and/or on free/reduced lunch? See your counselor. You cannot buy tickets at the door, so be sure to buy your tickets early!

Senior Breakfast tickets are on sale at the ASB window, May 15 – May 30. You cannot buy tickets at the door. Price is TBA, but in years past, prices were about $5 In order to purchase tickets and attend, you must have no fines and have cleared your tardies to less than 10.

 

May 17

Senior Class Meeting, 9:40 – 10:15, Theater – regarding graduation, prom, senior check out forms, senior survey, and academic awards.

 

May 20

All library materials must have been returned by this date in order to purchase prom tickets, pick up an annual on Annual Day, and to receive Commencement tickets on June 6.

 

May 22

iPad return date for all seniors. Via senior classes. iPad must be in its case with its charger and returned in order to pick up Commencement tickets and walk at Graduation.

Academic Awards is in the Shorecrest Theater at 7:00 PM. All are welcome to attend this special evening honoring the academic achievements of senior students.

 

May 23

Prom guest passes are due today by 2:45 PM to the Activity Office or to Mrs. Phillips’ mailbox.

 

May 23 – June 6

Honor cords will be on sale at the ASB window during Nutrition Break and lunch. Cords are $5.00 and may be worn during Commencement by any senior with a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA.

 

June 6

Senior Breakfast at the Shoreline Center from 8:00 – 10:00 AM. Tickets are required (last day to purchase is May 30). The Senior Slide Show will be shown in its entirety from 9:30 – 10:00 AM. Attire: nice clothes. In order to attend, you must have no fines and tardies must be cleared to less than 10.

Graduation Rehearsal #1 is in the SC gym, 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM. Rehearsal is mandatory for those who plan on going through Commencement on June 9. (Running Start students must notify their counselor if there is a conflict with attending this rehearsal due to college finals.) Students receive graduation tickets today following the rehearsal.

Honor Cords – today is the last day to purchase these at the ASB window (see details above).

National Honor Society members pick up stoles, to be worn at graduation, from Mrs. Hulbert through June 7. Membership and probation requirements must be met to receive your stole. Stoles must be returned to SC staff immediately following Commencement.

Grad Parade! 12:45 – 2 PM after commencement practice No. 1. Wear your cap and gown while walking from SC to Kellogg, and then drive to your home elementary school to get the high-fives you deserve. Details: Suzanne.Monson@shorelineschools.org.

 

June 7

Graduation Rehearsal #2 is in the SC gym, 7:30 – 9:30 AM. And yes, this rehearsal is mandatory.

Caen Laida is in the SC gym, from 10:30 – 12:15 PM. This assembly honors outgoing seniors and accomplished students of the year. This assembly is also mandatory. Parents are welcome to attend, but must sign in at the Main Office prior to the assembly.

 

June 9

GRADUATION! The class of 2019 Commencement Exercises in Angel of the Winds Arena at Everett will begin promptly at 6:00 PM. Seniors should arrive no later than 5:00 PM. Remember to bring your cap/tassel, gown, 2019 yellow stole, honor cord, and, if applicable, NHS stole. It’s important that each graduate’s name be heard by their proud families and friends. Out of respect, please refrain from using air horns or other noisemakers. Balloons are not allowed in the Arena.

Senior Spree 2019! Check in, for all those who sign up, starts at 9:00 PM on June 9 at the Lake Forest Park Mall’s lower parking lot between Chase Bank and Bank of America. Seniors will return to same location between 5:30 – 6:00 AM on the morning of June 10. If you have any questions, please contact spree@shorecrestptsa.org

 

June 13

Diplomas and portfolios may be picked up by graduates only at Shorecrest from 10:45 – 11:45 AM and 1:15 – 2:15 PM today in the Career Center. During Commencement, seniors will receive an empty diploma cover. Come pick up your real one today!
