Family Astronomy Night
Shorecrest High School will present its 15th annual Family Astronomy Night on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, from 6:30-8:30 PM, on the first floor of the school. This is a rain or shine event. If there is star shine we will also have telescopes outside. It is a free event.
The event consists of exhibits and activities, for all ages, that the Shorecrest Astronomy class has created (there are also Shorewood students in the class, and we have numerous volunteer support through our science club co-sponsors).
In addition, we will have guest astronomers giving 15 minute talks, Seattle Astronomical Society members with telescopes, and UW astronomy students with a portable planetarium (with SC Alum Dr. Oliver Frasier).
During the event there is a scavenger hunt that students can do, which results in a Participation Certificate. That is our way of certifying participation if you want to use it as an extra credit opportunity. There will never be a promise of extra credit from us, as that is up to you. But there is definitely science, math, history, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, ART!, and math) that can be had at the event. We also will have a scavenger hunt activity focused on our youngest visitors as well.
