Your child does not have to participate in the weekly MathO sessions to participate in the competition, but they do need to be on a team for the team competition portion.

Attached is the Parent Information Form and consent form for all current MathO participants and any other interested 4th-6th graders.  These are due back at the office ASAP, but February 6th at the latest.

PTA Advocacy Corner

What Is Your Shoreline Schools Experience?
At the heart of PTA is advocacy, and that starts with sharing our experiences and things we hope for our children and schools.

Representatives from Shoreline Schools PTAs are headed to Olympia on January 20 to talk with our representatives and encourage them to take action on the top PTA priorities for the year. Having input from as many people as possible will help our legislators understand how these issues impact our District and encourage them to make these changes their priority this session, as well.

This is the power of PTA!

Take 5 minutes to share yours here: https://bit.ly/35b8Rp6

Want to go to Olympia? Contact shorelineptalegchair@gmail.com to learn more.

Thank you!

Kinderfest 2020

Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020

10am – 12pm

Shoreline Center, Shoreline Room

(18560 1st Ave NE)

Kinderfest is a great opportunity for families to hear and learn about the programs offered by the Shoreline School District such as: Food Services, Transportation, Nurses, ELL/Special Services, Highly-Capable Program and PTA.   Each elementary school in the Shoreline School District will have representatives there to answer questions. Spanish, Amharic, Tigrinya and Korean interpreters will be available.

Limited, no-cost childcare will be available on-site for children over 2 years old who are potty-trained  (sponsored by the Shoreline Children’s Center). Please note that food will not be allowed in the childcare room due to possible allergies.

Kindergarten registration will begin on Tuesday, February 4th at your neighborhood school. Registration is not on a first-come, first-served basis. All students registered by the close of business on February 28th will be put in a drawing to fill Kindergarten spaces available at their neighborhood schools. Incoming kindergarten students who have a sibling at their neighborhood school will be given priority placement (at their neighborhood school) if registered prior to the close of business on February 28th. Those registering after February 28th will be added to their neighborhood school's wait list as they register.

In order to attend kindergarten in the fall, your child must be five years old by August 31, 2020 and reside in the cities of Shoreline or Lake Forest Park.

For more information on registration please contact your neighborhood school or visit the Enrollment page on our website: www.shorelineschools.org/enrollment

If you have additional Kinderfest related questions, please contact Trinitee King at trinitee.king@shorelineschools.org or 206.393.4365.

Kindergarten Registration at Syre begins Feb. 4

Registration at Syre for students entering kindergarten in fall 2020 will begin on Feb. 4 and continue through Feb. 28, 2020.  Please help us spread the word to any neighbors with kindergarten age students who may not be aware.

From the Counselor's Desk

Playground Pal Volunteers Needed

Our playground pal program will be starting up again soon. We are looking for a few adult volunteers that could come in consistently during our afternoon recess time 11:30-1:00 M-F March- June.

Volunteers would arrive before recess and gather a few of our special buddy bench games/bins to take outside, set up (and take down) the playground pals poster and items on the table/bench and support students in sharing intentional kindness and increasing a sense of belonging and connection at recess.

If you are interested in helping please contact our counselor, Kim Kauffman (on site Th/F and job sharing with Heather Shickich who is on site M-W) at kim.kauffman@shorelineschools.org and let her know of your availability.  She will send you a link to sign up for volunteer times and go over the routine for volunteers as we team together to support our Playground Pal Team efforts. Thank you for considering sharing your time with our students!

Girls On The Run

Girls on the Run is registering now! Girls on the Run is a girl empowerment program that teaches girls important life skills while creatively integrating running and walking. This program is 10-weeks long and is for 3rd-6th grade students that identify as female. The program culminates in a celebratory, non-competitive 5K (3.1 miles).

Girls on the Run is for every girl – the curriculum includes adaptations for girls with sensory, intellectual and physical disabilities. Girls on the Run also provides unlimited scholarships and running shoes and sports hijabs for any girl in need. More information about financial aid can be found here: https://www.gotrpugetsound.org/Program-Registration You will be able to communicate your financial aid needs and request shoes or hijabs for your girl within the online registration form.

Girl Registration opens January 10th, 2020. The team size is 8-15 girls and a random lottery will be used to select the 15 girls for the team if more than 15 girls apply between January 10th-24th. The last day to sign up, if spots are still available, is March 9th, 2020. Note that the website indicates that is only offered for students through 5th grade, but 6th graders are included at Syre.
