Golden Acorn Awards:

Congratulations to our Golden Acorn Award Recipient, Kristi Brueck!

Kristi has dedicated countless hours to serving our Syre community in several remarkable ways.  Over the past 6 years, Kristi has volunteered at almost every type of PTA event including our Wildcat Walk, the school dance, the food drive, staff appreciation meals, field day, room parent, photo day and our back to school social.  Kristi took on an extremely time consuming position of co-producing our PTA sponsored play and joined the nominating committee. We are truly thankful for Kristi!

Congratulations to our Outstanding Advocate Award Recipient, Michelle Harris!

Michelle has brought new ideas and energy to Syre PTA’s mission to be a voice for all children.  Michelle has attended a Bystander Intervention Training workshop, a Race and Equity meeting, a Natural Leader training course and the Washington State PTA Legislative meeting, as well as developed the Syre Ambassadors program.  She has been instrumental in making sure our events are more inclusive by having gluten and dairy-free options, as well as a quiet space for those looking for a break from the large group activities. Michelle’s goal is to make sure that we do a better job at making all families feel welcome at our events and programs.  Thank you Michelle!

Congratulations to our Outstanding Educator Award Recipient, Lori Hashimoto!

Mrs. Hashimoto has been a staple at Syre for years and is the ideal kindergarten teacher.  She is a professional and attends to every detail. She creates a loving and fun environment for her students and individualizes lessons and small groups to meet every child’s need.  Mrs. Hashimoto invests in each child and makes very specific plans and goal to bring out the best in each of her students. We are so fortunate to have her at Syre. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor!

Syre PTA needs you!

Syre PTA is seeking individuals to serve on our Board next year! We need someone to step up and serve as co-President with Kiersten Holm. We also need a Family Engagement VP, as our current Family Engagement VPs will end their terms at the same time. If we don't fill these positions, we simply won't be able to organize events or manage things like the grant program. If you are interested, our board members are happy to meet with you to discuss what serving on the PTA Board entails. Please email Kristibrueck@gmail.com if you are thinking about joining the PTA board!

MATH OLYMPIAD INTRO PROGRAM FOR 3RD GRADERS

Search your 3rd grader's backpacks for the sign up sheet for Introduction to MathO that was sent home a bit ago!  This 4 week free course will introduce your 3rd grader to MathO while they work on mental math and team building. Wednesdays May 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd at 8:15 AM in the Library.  It's not too late to sign up.

FAMILY ENGINEERING NIGHT

Mark your calendars and join us on Wednesday, May 1st for Family Engineering Night.  The event is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:00 but you are welcome to arrive and leave when convenient for your family.  When you arrive you will receive a “passport” which will serve as your guide for the evening. You are free to rotate through the engineering stations and collect stamps upon completing the stations.

This evening includes activities from several engineering fields.  As you engage in the activities with your student, you will be helping them to better understand engineering concepts and skills.  The evening is designed for parents to work alongside their student and ask them questions that will help them “do it themselves”.

SBAC STATE TESTING IN MAY

Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) are the state student assessments in Washington State. All students in grades 3 - 6 will take the test in both Mathematics and English Language Arts/literacy. In addition, 5th grade students will take the Next Generation Science test.

The testing schedule and makeup dates are provided below.  Please limit out of school times, specifically on the dates your child is testing. All of the assessments will begin at 9:15 am and students will be provided the entire day if necessary.

If you have any questions regarding the upcoming testing, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher, or the school assessment coordinator, Heidi Alexander (heidi.alexander@shorelineschools.org).

Thank you for your support and understanding, Syre Staff

PARENT INPUT FORM

Student placement is one of our most important spring tasks.  Teacher teams give careful consideration as they develop class lists for the coming school year.  While specific teacher requests will not be honored, you may use the form attached here to offer specific input to help our wonderful staff to balance classes.
