Family Story Night, Thursday January 27, 6:30-7:15

In honor of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday earlier this month, we will listen to books about the Civil Rights Movement.
Father-daughter duo Aaron Claxton and MP 5th grader Queen Claxton will join forces to read two books about people and actions that were pivotal to that time in history.
Child of the Civil Rights Movement is a vivid story of an activist family in the center of the Civil Rights movement, including visits with “Uncle Martin.” It is written by Paula Young Shelton, the daughter of civil rights leader and former U.N. Ambassador Andrew Young.
The Youngest Marcher by Cynthia Levinson tells the story of Audrey Faye Hendricks, who was just 8 years old when she was arrested for participating in the Children’s March for integration in 1963.
Students who like to create while they listen are invited to make their own protest sign about something they care about.
