Status of Community Service Opportunities & the Requirement
The Shoreline School Board rescinded the graduation requirement for 40 hours of community service for the Classes of 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 due to the pandemic.
The District will review the requirement for other classes in the fall of 2022. If students have time and feel safe, we encourage you to find opportunities to gain experience and be engaged with your community.
For details on the requirement and policies regarding what does and does not count, see Community Service Requirement.
Note that summer service hours do NOT count for incoming 9th graders, though they do count for already-enrolled students entering grades 10-12. 9th graders may start accruing hours when the school year starts.
General Community Service Instructions
- Identify an event that will work for you.
- Sign up via the email address or link in the entry.
- Download a community service form from this page.
- Fill the form out completely & have your supervisor sign it. If it is difficult to get an actual signature, attach a screenshot of an email from the supervisor or a log of your hours from the nonprofit agency, or some other evidence showing verification.
- Turn the form in promptly after your service via your Class of 202x course in Canvas. IMPORTANT: please add a comment on your upload with: number of hours, agency served with, date of service. It might be 3 hours YMCA 6/19/21 or 11 hours Shoreline Farmers' Market 6/10-7/12/21.
Please do not email your forms or turn them in on paper; they will not be logged.
While we have established relationships with most of these community organizations, feel free to ask questions about the situations, and do not do anything you are not comfortable with.
