  • Donor's Choose Project for the Library!

Posted by Carrie Wandler on 11/15/2017

Thanks to the generous support of our Briarcrest families, the Briarcrest Library's Donor's Choose project was fully funded in less than one week!  Amazing!

We have already recieved the two iPads, Dot the robot and a tripod.  Dash the robot and some accessories are on their way!  I am thrilled to be able to offer students the opportunity to code and program our robots during our maker stations.  These robots are pretty easy to use, thanks to the user-friendly apps on the iPads.  I'm sure it won't take long for students to create their own fun games to share with classmates.  The iPads will also be used to create stop motion animation movies.  Again, thanks to an easy to use app on the iPad, students will become master film makers. Get ready to watch their learning and creativity soar!

This month students have been enjoying our engineering/building materials.  They are learning to work cooperatively to build some pretty impressive structures.  We will add our robots to the stations in December.  I am hoping to have some simple circuit building materials ready for January.

Thank you so much for supporting our library!

  • BC Summer Reading Registration!

Posted by Carrie Wandler on 4/27/2017

We are having a summer reading program for Briarcrest students in Grades K-5. This is a voluntary program. Each student who applies for the program will check out 4 books from the Briarcrest Library in June (The week of June 12th) and keep them until you can come in for one of our Summer Reading Check Out times. This year, Summer Reading Check Out will be every Wednesday evening 6:30 – 7:30 beginning July 5th. Summer Readers are encouraged to come to as many check out times as they can to return/renew/check out books (Limit: 4 books per student at any one time). Summer Readers should read and return their final books to Briarcrest at the Summer Reading Celebration on August 16th or the first week of school in September (Summer Reading books MUST be returned before students can begin regular library check outs for the school year).

We are excited to wrap up our Summer Reading program with a fun celebration August 16th from 6:30 – 7:30. More details will be announced as we get closer!

All applications for this reading program will be due to the Briarcrest Library no later than Friday, June 9th. If you have any questions, please contact us at the number below.

  • October Library Update

Posted by Carrie Wandler on 10/25/2016

Greetings!  I can't believe it is already almost November.  Where does the time go?  We have been very busy in the library since school started.   Our Maker Stations are in full swing.  Students are actively engaged in their checkout, reading, and other creative work every day.  Check out a few of our favorite happenings:

    Frankenstein!

We watched this video from Cartooning 4 Kids to learn how to draw Frankenstein.  They all turned out great!  Students were reminded that we also have a great selection of drawing books available for check out.

    Creepy Carrots!

We read one of my favorite picture books, Creepy Carrots by Aaron Reynolds.  Students then created their own creepy carrots to haunt our library.  Watch out for those creepy carrots!

    Community Story Time:

We have had our first two Community Story Time sessions.  At our first gathering we read a Pete the Cat story and made Pete the Cat hats.  He's one groovy cat!  Please join us for our next story time on November 7th at 11:15.

    International Dot Day:

We celebrated International Dot Day by reading The Dot by Peter Reynolds and creating our own dot art gallery.
