Highly Capable Portfolio Review
Shoreline's Highly Capable Program would like to inform families new to the district since January 2020 of an opportunity to have your student evaluated for Highly Capable services in Shoreline. Due to the impact of COVID-19 on schools and our inability to gather students for in-person testing, Shoreline is offering the Portfolio Review process this fall.
The Portfolio Review Process is only available to students who enrolled in Shoreline after December 2019 and therefore were not able to participate in Highly Capable Testing last January.
In a portfolio review, families who are new to the Shoreline School District submit copies of their student's achievement and cognitive data to the Highly Capable Department. A Multidisciplinary Selection Committee will convene to review portfolios and determine if the student is eligible for Highly Capable Services. Portfolios received by September 10, 2020 at 4:00 pm will be considered in the Fall MDSC meeting.
Please note you will need the following information to complete the form:
Current Students who attend a Shoreline School: For students who enrolled in Shoreline last Winter, you do not need to provide any additional Shoreline test or achievement data. We have access to all of your student's Shoreline data and will look at all assessment data, grades and standardized tests. If you would like to include data and information from your previous school district, you may upload those documents to the HiCap Program Review Form.
New Shoreline Students: For student's new to Shoreline beginning Fall 2020, please be prepared to submit the following documents:
- Report card from previous year.
- State testing results (e.g., Smarter Balanced) from the most recent year available.
- Results of standardized assessments administered by your student’s previous district (iReady, STAR, IRR, Iowa/ITBS, etc).
- Results from standardized cognitive tests administered by your student's previous district (CogAT, NNAT3, NNAT2, etc.)
The deadline for Portfolio Reviews is September 10, 2020. If you have any questions or difficulties, please contact the Highly Capable Program office at 206-393-4771 or email@example.com before the September 10th deadline.

Summer Math Boosters
The Summer Math Boosters Website is now available for Highly Capable Math students.
Students new to Highly Capable math will be studying mathematics at a grade level above for grades 2+ in the Fall. The summer math booster activities will help your student learn key topics from that "skipped" year of math content.
Newly identified students who will be entering grade 1 will not need to access any math boosters, but may enjoy some of the activities in the “Math Games & More” tab.
We are also making this site available to all families in case you feel that your student would benefit from additional math learning over the summer due to school closures this year.
Highly Capable Magnet Program Placement Community Forum follow-up
Thank you to those of you who were able to attend our virtual forum last night to gather feedback regarding possible changes to the placement of the Highly Capable Magnet Program. The Zoom conference was the first time that those of us presenting did so using that tool and I appreciated the patience of participants as we navigated through the presentation. I also appreciate the questions, comments and discussion that came in through Zoom chat room.
If you did not have a chance to attend the forum or would like to see it again, you can view it here.
If you would like to submit additional feedback, you can use this online form to provide that feedback or you can use the attached form and drop it off in the Superintendent’s Office at the Shoreline Center, 18560 1st Ave. NE. Any feedback returned to us by noon on Thursday, March 12 will be compiled and sent to the Board on Friday, March 13.
Also attached is the content of the chat from last night in PDF format. This, along with the recording of the forum last night, will also be provided to the Board.
Our next regular board meeting is March 16 and at this time the Board is still slated to have highly capable program changes as an action item on the agenda. They will have the opportunity to take action at that time. Board meeting materials will be posted on the evening of Friday, March 13.
