Field trips, when used as a device for teaching and learning, are important to supplement the curriculum and provide experiences outside the classrooms.

Field Trips Overview
There are three (3) types of field trips:
• One day local trip: trips that occur during the regular school day within the boundaries of Bellingham, Olympica, Cascade summit & Puget Sound. These trips require Building Administrator approval and Superintendent Designee verification.
• One day extended trip: trips that occur on a Saturday, Sunday or any non-school day within the boundaries of Bellingham, Olympia, Cascade summit and Puget Sound. These trips require Building Administrator approval, Superintendent Designee verification and Assistant Superintendent approval.
• Overnight extended trip: trips that take place overnight, over water or are beyond the boundaries of Bellingham, Olympia, Cascade summit and Puget Sound. These trips require Building Administrator approval, Superintendent Designee verification, Assistant Superintendent approval AND School Board Approval.

Field Trip Process
√ Teacher submits the Field Trip request form to the Office Manager. (forms available from Copy Center)
√ Building Administrator approves or denies the request.
√ Field Trip request is submitted to the Superintendent Designee at Shoreline Center.
√ If a bus or van is needed, the Office Manager will enter the request in Trip Tracker and a copy of the Field Trip request form is sent directly to the Transportation Dept.
√ Extended Trip requests will be approved or denied by Assistant Superintendent.
√ Extended Trip requests will be submitted to the School Board for approval or denial
√ Once all approvals have been completed, a confirmation copy will be returned to the building.
