Skills Development Center
Hours: 8:15AM - 2:15PM Monday-Friday
Welcome! The Skills Development Center (SDC) is a district wide program that offers a unique educational program for students with special needs in the Shoreline School District, as well as provides a cost effective way for businesses to have their products assembled and distributed. The SDC is located at the Shoreline Center (see SDC Locator Map under files). It has been decided for the STPC to remain at this location permanently. The location will offer a larger work space and potentially new work experience opportunities. The district will bus students to the STPC.
There are a variety of jobs in the SDC including bulk mail jobs for various businesses or assembling projects for Creation Station, an art/creative business in the Marysville area, or packaging various products. PEMCO Insurance partnered with us to assemble insurance information and teen driver packets. This year we are partnering with The WORKS (free clothing resource for Shoreline School District families that is supported by the Shoreline PTA Council). Students will have the opportunity to learn some retail type skills. Some students will have learned the "touch" of the pencil and the napkin engraver. Other small machines in the SDC are the folding machine, industrial size shredders, button maker and a sealing machine. Over the course of the school year, students will have the opportunity to learn to operate these machines. The emphasis of the Skills Development Center is to develop vocational and behavioral skills suitable for preparing the student for a successful experience in either community employment or, more specifically, a supported employment. This facility/program is used as an evaluation tool to determine when our students are ready for job placement in the community.
Take a look at our brochure describing our program. We might be able to assist you with your business needs. Order forms are under files.
