Welcome to Mrs. Cornelius's Classroom
-
Dear Students and Families,It is such a joy to be teaching in the 6th grade again at Briarcrest this year. This is my fourth full year as a classroom teacher, though I have been teaching at Briarcrest part-time as a math, science, and writing support teacher since 2013. This is my ABSOLUTE favorite age to work with. Before becoming a teacher, I completed a doctorate in Educational Psychology at the UW in 2008, where I conducted research on encouraging students to participate in the classroom and helping students to have productive conversations with one another. I use these techniques all the time in my teaching!! I am looking forward to helping your student grow academically, emotionally and socially this year....and getting to know the amazing people they all are.
All About Me
-
I am originally from Kansas! I went to college in Dallas, Texas, and then moved to Shoreline in 2001 when I became a UW Husky. My husband, Tom, and I moved to Denmark for a few years after my first son, Cavan was born. It was amazing to live in another country, and I loved learning to speak Danish! After having our second son, Devon, we moved back to the U.S. and settled in Kirkland. My hobbies include growing a vegetable garden, skiing, running, and learning Muay Thai (martial arts). With my boys, I do a lot of biking on trails and watching them play sports. I play the piano and clarinet and have dabbled on just about every instrument!

I plan to use this site to help you share in many wonderful experiences we will have in the classroom this year. I will post announcements and keep our calendar updated here. If you have signed a permission for your student to share photos, you will also be able to see your child in action in their learning.
Students will be able to complete assignments through a separate site called "Google Classroom."
