• Early Learning Update

What is new in Early Learning at Shoreline for 2018/2019?

    1.) Mission and Vision

We will be taking our first steps towards meeting our new Vision and Mission.

    • All Early Learning students will be enrolled in classrooms will be with a mix of children and staff from our three early learning programs:
      • Children’s Center
      • Head Start
      • Early Childhood/Special Education.
    • All Early Learning staff will share professional development and time to collaborate and use aligned, evidence-based curriculums.
    • All Early Learning families will have opportunities to engage with the program through family nights, conferences, volunteering, and parent groups.

    2.) Location

We will be saying goodbye to our classrooms at North City at the end of June, and

    • Into Shoreline Center (18560 1st Ave NE Shoreline, WA 98155) till December 2018
    • then into the District’s new Early Learning Center (1900 N 170th St, Shoreline, WA 98133) for January 2019!

    3.) Curriculum

We will be adopting an aligned, evidence-based curriculum.

    • The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool is a comprehensive, research-based curriculum that features exploration and discovery as a way of learning. Teachers use hands-on, project-based investigations and have flexibility in enhancing or individualizing for their group every day, while building children’s confidence, creativity and critical thinking skills.

    • Second Step: Social Emotional Skills for Early Learning Program – when children enter kindergarten with the self-regulation, and social-emotional skills taught in this evidence-based program they are set up for success. Second Step lessons and classroom strategies help early learners harness their energy and potential by teaching them to:
      • Listen
      • Pay attention
      • Control their behavior
      • Get along with others

We are looking forward to sharing news with you over the coming months, and welcome your questions, ideas and suggestions about our future!
