Ms. Kelley
My name is Mia Kelley and I've been an educator in Shoreline School District for ten years. My oldest son began kindergarten here at Lake Forest Park Elementary and is a recent 2018 graduate of Shorecrest High School. My youngest son is beginning his sophonore year at Shorecrest and is the ASB Treasurer. He began his journey in leadership here at LFP in the student council.
I am originally from Michigan and attended Michigan State University. I moved out here in the fall of 1993 and finished my degree at UDub. When I felt my sons were old enough for me to go back to school I earned my Teaching Certificate at UDub Bothell and shortly thereafter began teaching at LFP.
My philosophy about teaching is that every student is valued and every student has the ability to learn. Comprehension looks different for each individual student. It is important to be able to find what works best for each child and build upon that to create a vibrant learning community where each child experiences success.
I have been told I'm "strict but fair." My classroom is structured but fun. We don't sit for long periods of time; we go outside to get fresh air and move. I use music to help solidify math steps and once in a while we all might break into a class dance to just let loose. I want my students to wake up wanting to come to school and to leave knowing they learned something useful. I want them all to have confidence in their ability to overcome difficult concepts and be able to persevere.
Lastly, I believe it is an honor to not only teach but to also be a part of your child's present, future, but most importantly their past.
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at mia.kelley@shorelineschools.org.
Sincerely,
Mia Kelley
