    Teaching Philosophy:
I strive to create learning opportunities that engage students in personal inquiry. I believe that students achieve more when education is relevant, fun, and challenging. With high expectations for every student, I look forward to an enriching year.

    About Mr. Ballard:

I am truly blessed to educate students in the same community in which I was raised.  I have fond memories of riding my bike, building forts, and running lemonade stands in the wonderful city of Shoreline-- although it wasn't a city back then.  My love of knowledge guided me to Western Washington University where I received my teaching certification.  Being a Lifelong learner, I quickly found myself at the University of Washington where I earned a Master's degree in 2004 (GO HUSKIES).

My proudest teaching accomplishment came three years later when I was became a National Board Certified Teacher.  This is the highest certification available in the country.  I recently successfully completed my recertifiaction.

I reside minutes from Echo Lake with my loving and supportive wife Julie, our two young boys Alexander and Nathaniel (11 and 13), and our daughter  Lucy (7).  Some of my favorite things include playing guitar/piano, solving Rubik’s cubes, playing sports, hiking, watching movies, and most notably spreading peanut butter on a small piece of dark chocolate.  When not teaching academics, I enjoy coaching basketball and hockey.  For over 20 years, I have shared my skills, energy and love of learning with Shoreline schools.
