Enrollment at the HEE
  • How to Enroll with Shoreline’s Home Education Exchange for 21-22

    Q&A Info Sessions

If you’re new to the Home Education Exchange (HEE) and interested in enrolling your kindergartener - 8th grader in the HEE for the 21-22 school year, please complete this form to be added to our interest list and receive meeting information for fall 2021 info sessions.

At the beginning of the 21-22 school year, enrollment numbers are shifting frequently, and we might have openings for new students. Live Q&A sessions for back-to-school time have ended, but please complete the interest form above, and we'll send you information about the program to review on your own time.

Zoom links will be sent to those on our interest list in advance of info sessions.
Attendance at a live session is required prior to acceptance into the program.

If you require an interpreter, please contact the HEE office via phone or email at least 72 hours prior to the Q&A session you plan to attend.

    Shoreline District Residents

    Kindergarten Enrollment (February - March)

Once you’ve signed up for our interest list and to attend a Q&A session per instructions above, you have two options:

    • If you will homeschool on your own if not accepted into the HEE, enroll with the Home Education Exchange and familiarize yourself with the district’s guidance for homeschooling.
    • If you will attend your neighborhood school if not accepted into the HEE, follow district instructions and timeline to register with your neighborhood school
This is very important. If you don’t register with your neighborhood school by March 31, and there is not space at the HEE, your neighborhood school’s kindergarten classes could be full.

    Grades 1-8 Enrollment

Whether you’re attending a neighborhood school or homeschooling this year, sign up for our interest list and to attend a Q&A session no later than March 19, per instructions above. This process will get you onto our interest list for open spaces.

    Current HEE Families

    • To enroll an incoming kindergartener for 21-22, enroll no later than March 31, using the “existing families” registration link.
    • To enroll a grade 1-8 sibling for 21-22, please let us know by completing a survey that you will receive via email in February.
    • If you've withdrawn from the HEE and wish to return, please contact the office. Former HEE families will be placed at the top of the interest list for Shoreline district families or out-of-district families, following the timeline outlined on this page, with spaces offered if there is room in the program. This preference will be granted for one return to the program.

Out-of-District Families New to the HEE

Sign up for our interest list and to attend a Q&A session per instructions above. Continue registering with your home district or preparing to homeschool next year, if not accepted into the HEE. If you’re accepted, you’ll be notified per the timeline below and will then need to submit a Choice Transfer Request with your home district.

    Program Acceptance Process

We will follow this process to accept and enroll students for the following year, with drawings held if needed, up to our program’s enrollment capacity.

HEE siblings’ acceptance will be confirmed no later than the last week of March.

Shoreline families new to the HEE will be grouped into two drawings:

    • Group A: Shoreline families who applied the previous year and were not accepted will have a drawing the first week of April, with invitations sent the second week of April. Families will have three school days to accept or decline the invitation.
    • Group B: New Shoreline families will have a drawing after group A is complete, with a goal of invitations being sent by the end of April. Families will have three school days to accept or decline the invitation. Any family not invited through this process will go on to an interest list to be in the Group A drawing the following year.

If a family in either group declines an invitation, they may express interest again the following year and will be placed in Group B.

Out-of-district families will be grouped into two drawings, if space remains in June after Shoreline families are enrolled:

    • Group A: Families who applied the previous year and were not accepted will have a drawing, with invitations sent in early June. Families will have three school days to accept or decline the invitation.
    • Group B: New families will have a drawing mid-June, if space remains after group A. Families will have three school days to accept or decline the invitation. Any family not invited through this process will go on to an interest list to be in the Group A drawing the following year.

If a family in either group declines an invitation, they may express interest again the following year and will be placed in Group B.

If space is available after June, students will be offered spots in August/September when we return from summer break, following the prioritization order outlined above.
