Extended Care Registration Frequently Asked Questions
Q - Is extended care guaranteed for all elementary Shoreline School District families?
A - We are not able to guarantee services to all families. The size of each site varies, and is determined by the history of demand, space and staff available.
Q - If I have a younger child who has been enrolled at the Edwin Pratt Early Learning Center, do they and their siblings have returning student priority in Extended Care?
A - No, because the sites are usually fully enrolled, spots in extended care have to come available because children move on over the summer, typically to the 6th grade. Please complete a "Request for Care" form to be part of our new student lottery taking place after May 11th, date TBD.
Q - When will I be contacted regarding a spot for my child?
A - The date of our new student & sibling lottery is still being decided. Due to the current closure our district is facing we are postponing our lottery for siblings & new families for our elementary extended care programs. Registration for our extended care families has also been postponed. We will update families with more information as it is available.
Q - My student is a kindergartener and has been placed at another district school for the current year. Are we guaranteed a spot at our home school extended care program for the following school year?
A - We strive to ensure that all children that are currently enrolled in our program can continue to recieve care for the following years. Priority placement for open spots at home schools will be given to kindergarteners transitioning back to their home schools and are currently enrolled in extended care. This placement will be done via a lottery if we have more kindergarteners than spts available to ensure it is equitable.Q - My student has been placed in another school for this current school year, but there is a possiblity a place could open up for them before the school year begins. If my child is registered for extened care at another school, but we are given the opportunity to move back to our homeschool are we guaranteed our extended care spot?
A - While it isn’t possible to hold spots for all the potential outcomes for every family, we will transfer if there is a spot. And if there is a high enough need at a site, and we can access additional space, we will where possible, add staff to be able to serve more students.
