  • EINSTEIN MIDDLE SCHOOL FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2017                                        #12

TODAY WE HAVE ALL PERIODS, ON A.M. ASSEMBLY SCHEDULE!

SEPTEMBER IS PREPARED MONTH: “When ye are prepared for a thing, the opportunity to use it presents itself.” Edgar Cayce

THERE IS NO CROSS COUNTRY PRACTICE TODAY: See you next week!

Quiz Bowl Club: What’s Quiz Bowl? Quiz Bowl is a game in which two teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, sports, and popular culture. The defining feature of quiz bowl is the use of a ‘buzzer system’ that lets players interrupt the reading of a question when they know the answer. That element adds a dimension of confidence, anticipation, and rapid recall to what is primarily a game about knowing things. In simpler terms, it’s like a team version of Jeopardy! that emphasizes knowledge, teamwork, and rapid thinking. Space may be limited.  If you are interested please stop by Rm. L-5 and talk to Mr. Brown.  The club will be run through Hang Time and will meet every Wednesday.

VENDING MACHINE NEWS:  All Einstein Vending machines are now set up to take debit and credit cards.  Great news for those who don’t want to carry cash at school!  There is a max limit of $5 spending, which means that you can purchase 2-3 items with that amount.  Please try not to use $20 bills as this results in a lot of coin change and neither the cafeteria or office can make change.  Any questions?  Please come to the main office.

New STEM club for girls!  Shorewood students will be running a special 7-week long STEM club just for girls from September 27 through November 7. We will be building and programming a vex robot, learning the basics of code, designing an object to 3D print using CAD (computer aided design) and at our last meeting, hearing from a panel of women about their experiences in STEM. Space is limited.  If you are interested please email mary.thurber@shorelineschools.org.  The club will be run through Hang Time.

Einstein Students! Remember our ON TIME ON TASK behavior expectation and be on time for classes. More than 1 unexcused tardy will result in Tardy Tank.  Walk with a purpose and get to class on time. You can do it!

BACK TO BUSINESS PAPERWORK:  Last call for mandatory paperwork required from all students.  Please return the student information update forms that were given out at back to business.  Please return the individual user consent form for computer usage.  If you are in 7th grade please also return the yellow health form.  There are turn in bins in the office.  Other optional forms include residency questionnaire, PTSA membership, free and reduced lunch application and sports forms. We would like all these forms returned by September 30.

CHOICE RESIDENCY APPLICATION: If you live in another city other than Shoreline, you will need to have requested a choice transfer request with your home district in order to attend Einstein.  Please go to your home school district and request release from them via their transfer form so that we can be in compliance with the state!  If you or your parents have any questions about this, please ask Mrs. Buchanan 206-393-4731.

We have a new option for students during lunch - Quiet Lunch! This is an option for students during both lunches, and is a place for students to be in a quiet setting to read a book, finish homework, use computers for classwork or printing, or to just be in a quiet place during our lunch time. It is in room B-2 every day. Please come directly to the room at the start of lunch. If you are bringing lunch, you can quietly settle in. If you are buying lunch, you’ll get a pass to head to the cafeteria and get your lunch.

Tiger Tutoring begins Tuesday, September 26th: What is Tiger Tutoring?  It's a great place to come after school and get homework help from Einstein teachers and high school tutors. Also, if you have a group assignment to work on for class, it's a perfect meeting place for you and your partners.
Where is Tiger Tutoring? Check in with 'Hang Time' in the cafeteria right after school, and then we'll walk together to the library. When is Tiger Tutoring?  Tuesdays and Thursdays after school, from 3:00 to 4:30.
Who is invited?   All students that have classwork or homework to work on!
