Naviance

  • Naviance is a web-based college and career planning program used for graduation requirements at Shorecrest. It helps students, parents/guardians and school staff collaborate on post-high school goal-setting and plans. Its tools also streamline the career search and college application processes. Its comprehensive college and career planning solutions optimize student success, enhance school counselor productivity, and track results for school and district administrators.

Students each have their own account using their initials from their first and last names with their seven-digit student number (instead of email) and their multi-purpose Google password (for password). If you are a parent/guardian who would like to view your student's account, invite them to log in for you. You may also email College & Career Center coordinator Suzanne Monson for a temporary passcode that will allow you to set up your own personal password, giving one parent/guardian a way to set up a single Naviance account for all Shorecrest students in their household.

Naviance was new to Shoreline School District in 2012-13 and is currently being implemented at Shorecrest and Shorewood at all grade levels.

     Helpful Hints for Parent/Guardian log-in:

Start by going to Shorecrest’s home page:  www.shorelineschools.org/shorecrest

From here, click "Resources." Then click “Naviance Family Connection.”

    First-time site users (for parents):

v Click “I need to register” in the box on the right side. It will take you to a screen with a “New User” box.

v Enter your six-digit personal registration code.

v Follow the on-screen prompts to create your own account. If you don’t know your registration code, contact Suzanne Monson in the Career & College Center for help.

v Once you have your own account, you will sign in by entering the user name you created in the “email” box and below that, the password you chose during the registration process.

Please note: students are already registered by school - and parent/guardian registration codes will be different from theirs. Also, your code can be used only once.

Recommendation: Account registration is most efficient when entered by the parent/guardian who is the primary contact for school communications.

     Student log-in directions:

Even first-time student users - including freshmen and transfer students - will have a registration code that has already been entered by the Shoreline School District.

Start by going to Shorecrest’s home page:  www.shorelineschools.org/shorecrest

From here, click "Resources." Then click “Naviance Family Connection.”

On the top line/box, where it reads "email" - do NOT enter your email. Enter initials from your first and last name + the seven digits in your ID. (an example for Otis Highlander: oh1234567.

In the box labeled "password," please enter the Google password you created during your first week of school. Forgot this? Please visit the tech office in the library so they can hit a re-set action, allowing you to re-set your multi-purpose Google password.

    Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

How do I arrange a teacher’s letter of recommendation with Naviance?

    1)    From your Naviance account, click on the “Colleges” tab.

    2)    Add prospective schools to the “Colleges I’m Applying To” (not the “Colleges I’m Interested In”).

    3)    From the Colleges Tab, click "Letters of Recommendation."

    4)    This will take you to a page with the colleges you plan to apply to with the minimum/maximum number of LORs that college will receive. Above that list, there is a drop-down list of Shorecrest staff who can write LORs. Students may click the name of the person they have already personally invited to write their letter.

    5)    Check the box(es) next to the school for which you would like that specific writer to submit on your behalf. You may also choose "All" at the top if you would like the writer to submit for each of your prospective colleges.

    6)    A box at the bottom of the page allows you to add a personal note with reminders about your earliest deadlines, special points the student would like to have covered and – always importantly – a “thank you.”

    7)    Naviance e-reminders go directly to the teacher. When the letter has been posted by the teacher, it will show on this same page. Success!

Want more details? See the PPT Ms. Monson emailed to seniors on Sept. 19.  It is also linked in the "Documents" bar on the left under "How to Request Letters of Recommendation in Naviance 2016."

September 2017 greetings to all Shorecrest High students and families!

If your back-to-school season is filled with even a hint of college (and beyond) “plandemonium,” Shorecrest's Naviance Succeed program is ready and waiting to take the pressure off.

Now up and running at both Shoreline School District high schools, Naviance Succeed is a student’s free and confidential access to creating short- and long-term career goals. It’s one-stop shopping for everything from researching potential job interests to finding the right scholarships to get there. It even offers the convenience of designing a resume and sending most college admissions requirements (including transcripts and letters of recommendations) directly from the site.

Students will be learning more about how to get the most out of Naviance for their future during each and every school year of their high school career. (Parents/guardians can get a preview of a snapshot of what students will see by visiting Naviance. Parents are always invited to register so they may “view – not do” the work in their student's Naviance account.)

For parents/guardians who have never used Naviance, it works like this:

    • Follow the first two bullet points listed above.
    • Click the “New User” box on the right side of the screen.
    • Enter your personal registration code available from Suzanne Monson in the College & Career Center.
    • From Naviance, click the register button.
    • Type and confirm the required registration information.
    • Type and confirm a password.
    • Check the Privacy box.
    • Click the Complete Registration button.

Parents/guardians only need to register once; they may sign into a single Family Connection account and select any of his or her children to view.

Parents/guardians: give it a test-drive and explore with your student or on your own.

Students: Check out the helpful personality assessments and useful “career clusters.” Have fun with the college maps and take a look at the up-to-date resources for financial aid and planning tips.

We know this is an exciting time in a student’s life – and we are eager to work with students and their parents/guardians to help them make important decisions about their future.

For 12th grade Shorecrest students, make sure you learn the vital information to be covered during Highlander Home, and in Sept. 28-29 English classes. Running Start students should be checking their k12.shorelineschools email weekly for similar updates.

We are happy to make this resource available for our students so that they can aim high and reach their potential.
