Shoreline Children’s Center: FAQs for Summer Camp 2018

Why will Summer Camp programs be in two locations this summer?

The Children’s Center has been housed at a temporary location, North City, for the 2017/2018 school year as the work began on building a new facility at our former site. North City needs to be prepared for the next occupants, and our new Early Learning Center is now scheduled to be ready for occupancy in January 2019.

So, this year, the Summer Camp program for Preschool children and children entering Kindergarten will be at the Shoreline Center. We have access to District Conference Center rooms and some fenced areas outside with play equipment. All of our Early Learning materials and equipment will be there.

The Summer Camp program for students who are entering First Grade and higher will be located at Meridian Park Elementary. In addition to the rooms used by our Extended Care program during the school year, Summer Camp program will be using the gym, cafeteria, fields and playgrounds.

Are there changes to the registration and enrollment process?

We now have a weekly registration so we can build a consistent community of staff and children who share experiences, plans and projects. Camp Hours will be from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, five days per week, with an extended care option. This format supports a positive friendship and skill-building experience for campers, through smaller group sizes and better ratios that also increase safety. Centering all major activities during the 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM camp hours will ensure all children have a full camp experience, whether or not families elect to use the extended care hours. To enroll in extended care families can select ten hours between 6:30 AM and 6:30 PM.

Why are there different rates for Preschoolers and Elementary school children?

Similar to during the school year, preschool children will be in smaller group sizes, not over 20, and with an adult to child ratio of not more than 1 to 10.

Will we be charged any additional fees?

This year the flat $30 Activity Fee will be the only charge beyond camp registration for new students, and tuition. Every camper will enjoy the sports, team games, cooking, art activities, and other enrichment opportunities included in their camp day, without paying any additional special fees.

What happened to the 3 hours per morning session for preschool-aged children that was offered in Summer 2017?

This Half Day camp was piloted in Summer 2017 to see if there was community interest in this kind of program for preschoolers only. It did not result in sufficient enrollment to continue.

Can families sign up for camp weeks all summer, or is there a deadline?

Registration begins February 28th and will continue on a first-come, first-served basis until we reach capacity, which may occur prior to June 1, 2018. To ensure a spot, plan to register early.

What if I want to cancel or change what I initially registered for?

Prior to June 1, you may cancel enrollment in the summer program for a full refund minus the Activity fee and New Student Registration fee (if applicable.

Prior to June 1, you may drop or add weeks for $50 schedule change fee for each change.

After June 1, you may ONLY add weeks (if there is space available) for a $50 schedule change fee for each change.

After June 1, you will be charged for any weeks your child is registered for, regardless of whether or not your child attends. Also, no refunds or alternate days will be given for absences.
