About Our School
-
Our Mission: Through our core values of Academic Excellence, Community, Collaboration and Respect for Human Differences, Parkwood Elementary School inspires and prepares students to reach their highest potential and live empowered, successful, and compassionate lives. *Our mission, vision and values were collaboratively developed by Parkwood staff and stakeholders in 2015.
About Parkwood: Parkwood Elementary, a Title 1 school, is one of the most ethnically, economically, culturally, and linguistically diverse schools in Shoreline. Approximately 40% of Parkwoods 450 students qualify for free or reduced lunch, 30% of our students speak a language other than English at home, and 16% qualify for special education services. While some may view these demographics as difficulties, Parkwood enthusiastically celebrates our diversity. Our communities are committed to student success and it shows: Parkwood uniformly exceeds state performance levels in all standardized tests and regularly exceeds scores earned by other Shoreline elementary schools. We have won Washington State Academic Achievement Awards in 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2018. *The program was suspended state-wide in 2017 and reintroduced in 2018.
The Parkwood community is collaborative, holistic and relentless about student growth. We truly believe that our work will change our students’ lifelong trajectory, enabling them to overcome financial and educational barriers. We approach instruction and intervention systematically, rejoice in our accomplishments and celebrate our cultures. Through our work and play, we care for children’s academic, social and emotional development.
