Headlines & Features
Please join us for our first virtual Parkwood Family Academy! Parkwood staff will be presenting technology tips and tricks for student devices, Classlink and Seesaw. Families will have an opportunity to attend a session for either Chromebooks or iPads, take a tour of Classlink, and do a deep dive into the tools and Family Access App for Seesaw. We hope to see you there! Find the Zoom links by clicking the Headline.
Friday, November 6th, our staff will be on site from 2:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. to distribute supplies to families. Please come to our front drop off loop (by our main entrance) on Wallingford Ave North. Lots of Parkwood staff - including many classroom teachers! - will be there to hand out learning materials, see you in person, wave, and say hello. We are asking all families to come and we hope that you can make it!
Did you miss our Black and Brown Families Town Hall Virtual Discussion on October 12? A recording is now available to watch online. Watch to learn more about the work our Equity and Family Engagement Department is engaged in to support BIPOC students and families, community Q&A and more.
One of our amazing fourth graders is keeping busy at home helping her mom sew face masks for nurses. Doing math and grammar homework and taking time to keep our first responders safe. We love our Parkwood community!

About Our School
Our Mission: Through our core values of Academic Excellence, Community, Collaboration and Respect for Human Differences, Parkwood Elementary School inspires and prepares students to reach their highest potential and live empowered, successful, and compassionate lives. *Our mission, vision and values were collaboratively developed by Parkwood staff and stakeholders in 2015.
About Parkwood: Parkwood Elementary, a Title 1 school, is one of the most ethnically, economically, culturally, and linguistically diverse schools in Shoreline. Approximately 40% of Parkwoods 450 students qualify for free or reduced lunch, 30% of our students speak a language other than English at home, and 16% qualify for special education services. While some may view these demographics as difficulties, Parkwood enthusiastically celebrates our diversity. Our communities are committed to student success and it shows: Parkwood uniformly exceeds state performance levels in all standardized tests and regularly exceeds scores earned by other Shoreline elementary schools. We have won Washington State Academic Achievement Awards in 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2018. *The program was suspended state-wide in 2017 and reintroduced in 2018.
The Parkwood community is collaborative, holistic and relentless about student growth. We truly believe that our work will change our students’ lifelong trajectory, enabling them to overcome financial and educational barriers. We approach instruction and intervention systematically, rejoice in our accomplishments and celebrate our cultures. Through our work and play, we care for children’s academic, social and emotional development.
