Dear Third Grade Families,
Welcome to the start of a very successful and exciting third grade year. This is my seventh year teaching at Echo Lake and I am sure it will be an amazing one! I look forward to sharing my love of teaching with your students, and learning from them as well. This year your students will continue to grow as readers, writers, scientists, and mathematicians. They will also have fun and develop great friendships. In order to ensure that your student succeeds, I will foster a positive, caring, safe, nurturing, and respectful learning environment. I look forward to working with you to make this a wonderful third grade year!
I will be keeping in close contact with you through weekly newsletters, personal notes, phone calls, and emails. Please keep in touch with me as well. I welcome your calls, notes, and emails. The best time to reach me is before or after school. The school phone number is 206.393.4338. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org. I check my email throughout the day.
Other Important News:
1. S.T.A.R. Binder
This is a three ring binder that your child will bring home and return to school everyday. This binder is where weekly and daily homework will be kept as well as notes home to families and notes to the teacher. Your help in establishing a pattern of bringing the envelope to school the next day, is greatly appreciated!
2. Snacks (No PEANUTS/TREE NUTS Please)
Students are welcome to bring a small, healthy, and nut free snack to eat mid-day. Students are not allowed to share snacks due to allergies and health concerns.
Our class will be celebrating birthdays by reading each students’ favorite book on their special day. Students can bring a favorite book from home or pick one from our classroom library to read to the class on their birthday. Birthday treats must be saved for home celebrations. Please do not send birthday treats to school. This is a school-wide policy.
4. School Hours
Students are expected to be in the classroom ready to work by 9:10. Students are not to arrive on school grounds before 9:00 unless they are participating in a scheduled before-school activity or attending the before-school daycare program.
The school day ends at 3:30. Bus riders will exit out the front door by the office. Students being picked up will exit out the side door to the waiting area on the north side of the building (the sidewalk runs parallel to 195th Street).
Please contact the school office at 206.393.4338 to report your child’s absence. It is best to call first thing in the morning on the day of the absence. Work missed during an absence will be collected and sent home for completion.
You are always welcome in the classroom. Before coming into the classroom all volunteers must fill out a background check form. Even if you were a volunteer last year you still need to fill out new paperwork. This form is coming home in a packet on the first day. If you need more forms or have any questions please see the front office or let me know.
7. Curriculum Night
Curriculum Night is being held early this year on September 6th! Although Curriculum Night is normally run in two sessions, I will be flying out for a wedding that evening so I will only be holding ONE information session. The ELL information session is from 5:30-6:00 in the library and I will hold my information session from 6:00-6:30. Again, this is the ONLY information session I will be holding. I am very sorry if this time does not work. If you are unable to make the 6:00-6:30 time I will be sending home all the information covered and I would be happy to meet with you at a different time if you have any questions.
It is school policy to have ALL visitors sign in at the office when arriving on campus. Before coming to the classroom, please sign in at the office and pick up your visitor’s badge.
I will be sending home a volunteer sign up sheet on curriculum night to schedule classroom help. This will enable both of us to make the most of your valuable time.
I look forward to working closely with you to meet the individual needs of your child. Third grade is a fabulous year of development for children, and I can’t wait to see all the growth that occurs in our classroom!
That’s all for now. I look forward to seeing you at Curriculum Night on September 6th 6:00-6:30.
