Jennifer Quisenberry-LibrarianI have taught Kindergarten in Seattle Schools for the past 14 years: 9 years as a classroom teacher of Kindergarten & 5 years as an interventionist in Kindergarten. This will be my first year as a librarian.I have two young boys (age 6 & 4) who keep me and my husband busy. We love camping, doing outdoor adventures, reading together and playing games.I graduated in 2003 from Seattle Pacific Univiersty and have since gotten my Masters from Walden University in Early Literacy and my National Board Certification in Early Childhood. My older son and I are reading Mouse and the Motorcycle and my youngest has just started reading the Mercy Watson series with me. I have read a lot of great books this summer, one of my favorites was Born a Crime by Trevor Noah. This summer we just got back from a 9 day camping adventure in Banff and Kootenay National Parks in Canada. In addition we’ve had several friend gatherings closer-by that we’ve been able to camp at. This is our first summer co-owning an itty bitty little camping trailer and it has been tons of fun to explore the great outdoors with it.Parent EncouragementWhile I spent the last 14 plus years in kindergarten classrooms, this past year was my first year as a parent of a kindergartener. Continue to show your child support and love and prepare to be blown away as they grow both intellectually and as a person.
North City LibraryStudents at North City visit the library for 45 minutes each week. Most weeks are spent reading a text together, responding in collaborative and or exploratory work, participating in some song, poem and/or movement and checking out a text to take home. Students return their library books each week and then may check out another during their library time. Please spend time reading these books together. The power of getting to choose any book is awesome for kindergarteners! Enjoy the family time this creates.
