  • 5CAMP

    Dear 5th Grade Parents,

This is the first time ever that we planned to send two grades of students to Camp Orkila and everyone’s support and fundraising was phenomenal.

Sadly, things have changed in our world with Covid19.  Camp Orkila informed us that they will not be able to reschedule camp for our 5th grade students or any other group that missed camp during the closures.

We know this is very disappointing and will be hard for students to learn about this news.  Please let your teachers know how they can support your child.

With this information, we will need to follow the district guidelines for refunds.  Funds paid directly by families for tuition will be reimbursed to each individual family.  Below is the process for getting your refund.

    1.     Office Manager will process necessary paperwork
    2.     District will receive request for refund and process refund
    3.     Refund will be mailed to your home

*This process normally takes approximately three weeks. However, since all of our staff are working from their home and three schools are asking the district to start the refund process, it is expected that this process will take longer.

If you would prefer to transfer the funds to your child’s school lunch account, please email

The funds raised by families and students via fundraising efforts this year cannot be returned to donors or the family it was raised for.  Per school district direction, these funds will remain in Highland Terrace’s ASB account.

Again, we are thinking of you all and understand how disappointing this is.

    Thinking of you all,

    Lara Drew

    Principal  | Highland Terrace

Hi Highland Terrace Staff and Community,

Below is the district updated guidance regarding field trips, staff work travel and volunteers. This is also added to the district FAQ page -

    Are field trips canceled?

All field trips to non-Shoreline Public Schools facilities located in King and Snohomish Counties are canceled until at least March 20, 2020. Field trips to locations outside of King and Snohomish Counties will be considered on a case-by-case basis. This decision is based on recommendations from Public Health-Seattle & King County. At a minimum, we will be reassessing this restriction each Friday and will provide an update if it is extended or lifted.

Our school team is working on what this means for the field trip we have during this time.  We will be in touch with families as soon as possible with information about rescheduling, canceling, and potential reimbursement.

    Is staff out-of-district travel restricted?

In response to the current situation, all out-of-district work-related travel for all staff is canceled through March 20, 2020. At a minimum, we will be reassessing this restriction each Friday and will provide an update if it is extended or lifted.

Are volunteers able to continue working in schools?

We absolutely love our volunteers! However, in an effort to limit the number of people coming in and out of our buildings, we are suspending volunteering in our schools until at least March 20, 2020. This restriction includes any non-staff member volunteering in our schools and/or programs (i.e. parent/guardian, community member). At a minimum, we will be reassessing this restriction each Friday and will provide an update if it is extended or lifted.
