Learning Assistance Program

  • The Learning Assistance Program (LAP) is a state-funded program that provides supplemental academic support in Reading, Writing and Mathematics for students performing below standard on state or district assessments.  The focus of LAP support is on literacy for grades K-6.  Shoreline also uses LAP funds for math support grades 6-12.

The focus of LAP support is early literacy development, with an emphasis on students in grades K-2

For more information, please contact the LAP office at 206.393.4117.

Dyslexia Work Group

  • In 2018, the Washington legislature passed E2SSB 6162, which defines dyslexia as a specific learning disorder characterized by unexpected difficulties with accurate or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities (not an eligibility category for special education). By school year 2021-22, this bill will require districts to screen all students grades K-2 for indications of dyslexia and to provide intervention if needed.
