Principal's Message 3.21.17

Greetings Brookside Families,

Lake Forest Park Safe Streets Project TONIGHT

The City of Lake Forest Park is hosting this open house event to get community input on priority projects

needed to make its streets safer for pedestrians and cyclists and to increase safe connections to transit and

amenities (like the Burke-Gilman Trail, Interurban Trail, parks, and schools). The open house is part of the

Safe Streets project (www.lfpsafestreets.com) and will take place at the Lake Forest Park City Hall Council

Chambers 6:30-8:30 p.m. tonight. I look forward to seeing Brookside families at this meeting. Snacks and

beverages will be provided.

Brookside’s Twitter Feed

You will find it at @Brookside_LFP. So…what will you see there? Recently, I’ve posted about special events

(like the Math Olympiad), ongoing processes (our safety patrol work at student drop-off zones), as well as

celebrations of student accomplishments (such the superb efforts of our Global Reading Challenge team). At

Brookside, the twitter account is a way to share information with our community rather than two-way

communication. If you need to reach us with questions or concerns, please use the time-honored

technologies of telephone, email, or simply drop by and see us.

A Survey Will Be Coming to You…

Our Teaching & Learning Dept. facilitates the 2020+ Strategic Planning Committee that is currently working

to craft Shoreline Public Schools’ course moving forward into the next decade. Our District is committed to

engaging our families in this very important process. You will soon receive a survey from this committee for

that purpose. Please take time to complete and submit the survey so that Shoreline can understand your

perspective and use this information in long-range planning.

Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA…The State Test)

Students in grades 3-6 complete the SBA over the course of March & April. The window is rather long

because we space out the testing to avoid bandwidth issues for these online tests. Please reference the SBA

calendar on the homepage of the Brookside web site. Efforts to schedule doctor appointments or other

planned absences outside the testing dates are much appreciated. Make up sessions are built in to the

calendar so please do not feel your child’s score will be negatively impacted by missing a given testing

session if it cannot be avoided.

Thank you for your support of our students, staff, & community,
