FAMILY ENGAGEMENT NIGHT WITH DR. TANISHA BRANDON-FELDER:

TALKING TO KIDS ABOUT RACE

All parents of students on the westside of Shoreline School District are invited to join us on Monday, Feb. 6 at 7 pm at Einstein Middle School for a workshop led by Dr. Tanisha Brandon-Felder on Talking to Kids about Race.

Kids have a way of asking questions that are not always easy to answer. When you throw the topic of race in, it can get a bit dicey. Having conversations about race is not designed to be comfortable, but the need to engage with our youth is essential to having healthy conversations as they grow and as adults, we grow with them.  The Talking to Your Kids about Race workshop  will offer awareness, skills, and practice.

GLOBAL READING

The Final Challenge will take place on Feb 6th 9:30-10:30  in the Syre Cafeteria. The King County Librarians will be in attendance and running the Challenge. The winning team will move on to the district Challenge in March.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION OPEN FOR 2017-18

Registration for kindergarten in 2017-18 is now open at Syre.  The office will be open late, until 6pm, on Monday, Feb. 6 to accommodate parents who can’t make it in before our regular 4:30 closing time. All students registered by Feb. 28 will have equal access to Syre and a lottery will be done in early March if it is needed.  Registration after February 28 is ongoing and all students are guaranteed a spot in Shoreline School District, but will be placed at Syre on a space available basis.

In order to attend kindergarten in the fall, your child must be five years old by August 31, 2017 and reside in the Syre attendance area.  At this time Shoreline schools are closed to elementary age students who reside outside the District.  Please help us spread the word to neighbors who have children of enrollment age.

For more information on registration please visit the enrollment webpage at:www.shorelineschools.org/enrollment.
