Volunteering is an important way to strengthen your community. It helps you feel younger working with the younger generation. As you get older, it is important to stay active for mind and body.
Power of One volunteers tell why they volunteer:

“My children had such great education and special help from the Shoreline Schools that I feel the need and desire to give something back to other kids (and the teachers)”

“Love of math-to give back some of what I received over a lifetime.”

“It is satisfying to share knowledge and help”

“…to feel useful, enjoy young people and have “big” high when everything works.”

“I love getting to know the kids and feeling that I might be contributing to their lives in some small way.”

“When I retired I wanted to continue giving my time and energy to activities that would utilize my skills and help others as well as benefit me. I like and have worked with kids all my life, so tutoring at the elementary level has been a great experience.”

“I feel needed and I love the children. It is easy to do.”

“I love kids for their honesty, openness, and inquisitive nature. I believe I can bolster their interest in learning and demonstrate a positive example.”

“I enjoy children. I need to have something worth doing”

“After working with children for 20 years, I need a “kid fix” off and on and I think reading is the greatest thing anyone can learn”
