Highly Capable Testing

Testing for the Shoreline School District's Highly Capable Program for elementary grades will begin in January 2008 for the 2008-2009 school year.

First Grade

All district first grade students will be tested in January 2008. Parents of current district first graders will receive information in the mail about the testing and have the option of declining the testing of their child by signing and returning a postcard to the Highly Capable Program office. The top 10% of the first graders tested in January will go on for further testing in March.

Interested parents of private school or non-resident first grade students should contact Trudy Wright in the Highly Capable Program office to register for testing.

Grades 2 - 5

Students in grades 2-5 not currently being served by the program, private school and non-resident students will be tested in March 2007. Deadlines and testing dates are listed below. Parents interested in having their child assessed for program eligibility should contact Trudy Wright in the Highly Capable Program office at 206.368.4771 to register for testing.

Note: All non-resident students who wish to test must have an approved non-resident boundary exception application on file prior to testing.

Registration will begin November 20, 2007.

Important Deadlines

Deadline for private school 1st graders to sign up for testing....................Jan. 4
Deadline for grades 2-5 students to sign up for testing............................Jan. 31

Preliminary 1st grade testing in regular classrooms Jan. 3 – 18
Private school 1st grade testing at Shoreline Center Jan. 10
1st grade (top 10%) Mar. 1 & 15 MUST ATTEND BOTH DAYS
2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th grade Mar. 1 & 15
MUST ATTEND BOTH DAYS

August Testing

Testing is available in August only for students new to the district or private school students. If resident students miss the deadlines above, they will need to wait another year to test.
