Meridian Park students win regional contest in solar energy

Meridian Park students Ashley Owens and Cindy Chung won international honors and cash prizes after being named North American Region winners in the “2005 Solar Schools – Brighter Future” art and essay contest.

Ashley’s essay and Cindy’s drawing won them each $50. The school received $400 to be used for solar energy education.

The contest was sponsored by the International Solar Energy Society, which conducted a worldwide contest open only to schools with solar installations. Meridian Park became a solar school through the efforts of the Shoreline Solar Project, a group that also hosts Shoreline's Annual Renewable Energy Fair.

A panel of judges from the Shoreline Solar Project selected Ashley’s essay and Cindy’s artwork from all the submissions as the representative entries for the school.
