Mission Statement

The mission of the Shoreline School District is to provide a collaborative learning community which engages all students in learning the academic and work-life skills needed to achieve their individual potential and become responsible citizens.

District Profile - A tradition of excellence and involvement

The Shoreline School District, serving the communities of Shoreline and Lake Forest Park, has long been known for its quality schools and community involvement. Literally reaching from shore to shore – with Puget Sound to the west and Lake Washington to the east – the district just north of Seattle serves about 9,000 students with a highly dedicated staff and a mission to help each student reach his or her full potential.

Families move to the Shoreline and Lake Forest Park communities because of the quality of the schools. Shoreline students consistently score above the state and national averages on standardized tests and nearly 85 percent of the students who graduate from Shoreline schools pursue post-secondary education.

Of the district’s 600 teachers, about 70 percent hold master’s degrees and one-third have taught for 15 years or more.

The school district has strong parent involvement at all levels, including one of the strongest PTA Councils in the state. Individual school PTAs are routinely cited for award-winning programs that support student learning and enrichment.

Shoreline has a proud tradition of leadership in music education, with its choirs, bands and orchestras performing at the highest levels. The district also provides a full menu of student activities including strong drama and sports programs.

Secondary honors and AP classes are open to all students who meet the course requirements and want to achieve at the highest academic levels. The district is also a state leader in enhancing student instruction through the use of technology. All students in grades 7-12 receive a laptop computer for use at school and at home. Students in grades 5 and 6 have a laptop computer for use at school.

About 9,000 students in pre-K to twelfth grade.

Location

Serves the Shoreline and Lake Forest Park communities just north of Seattle. General boundaries: the King-Snohomish County line to the north; Lake Washington to the east; 145th Street to the south; and Puget Sound to the west. Schools Two high schools (grades 9-12), two middle schools (grades 7-8), Nine elementary schools (grades K-6) and the Shoreline Children’s Center (pre-K). Also: Home Education Exchange program and the K-8 alternative Room Nine Community School program. Shorewood High School and Einstein Middle School serve students west of I-5, while Shorecrest High School and Kellogg Middle School serve students east of I-5. For sports programs, Shorewood is classified as a 4A school, and Shorecrest as a 3A school.

Driving Instructions

To Shoreline School District administrative offices (Shoreline Center) 18560 First Avenue NE, Shoreline, WA 98155.

From I-5 North: Take the NE 175th Street exit (Exit #176). Turn left onto NE 175th Street. Go under the freeway overpass and turn right onto Meridian Avenue North. Turn right onto Northeast 185th Street. Turn left onto First Avenue Northeast. Pass the large parking lot on the right, and turn right into the second driveway leading to the administrative offices.

From I-5 South: Take the NE 175th Street exit (Exit #176). Turn right on NE 175th Street to Meridian Avenue North. From there, continue as above.

Community Support

This is a hallmark of the district. The district’s school levies have passed every time but once since the district was formed in 1944. The district also has one of the most active PTA’s in the state, and high parent and community involvement at all levels.
