Technology Integration

Shoreline schools have a long and rich tradition of innovative use of educational technologies. The combination of strong community support and a creative teaching staff has given our students the opportunity to enhance their learning with a wide variety of technological tools and information resources. We continually strive to develop new ways to make optimal use of the technology that is available in our district.

Over the course of two school years, all of Shoreline's schools acquired significant amounts of new hardware and software to help them better integrate technology into their instructional programs. All of our schools created a proposal outlining their specific needs in order to integrate technology in the classroom. This approach allows each building to foster technology integration driven by building goals and solid instructional methods. All teachers received iBooks in the Spring of 2005 to enhance teacher productivity and to use teachnology in teaching. Technology Intetegration Specialists in the elementary schools and technology coaches in the secondary schools support teachers as they find innovative ways to instruct the curriculum with technology as one tool to enhance instruction.

Examples of technology integration ideas range from creating clay animations using iMovie in a middle school art class to using Inspiration software in high school Chemistry to create a concept map of chemical reactions.

This infusion of equipment supports a major goal of the Superintendent and Board of Directors to prepare students for real life applications of technology by seamlessly weaving technology instruction and learning into everyday classroom instruction.
