Washington State Essential Learnings, established by law, are part of the foundation of teaching, learning, and testing in the Shoreline School District. Shoreline staff are developing grade level essential learnings/frameworks to align with the state goals in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, health/fitness, and the arts. All staff development for teachers and adoption of learning materials are based on theses state goals. Student achievement of these essential learnings is assessed by state and other assessments including norm-referenced achievement tests and tests given by classroom teachers.
Shoreline schools offer a wide range of learning opportunities including special assistance in basic skills, advanced placement courses for college credit, and professional technical courses for career paths. In addition to classroom instruction, extracurricular programs at all levels provide enrichment in academics, the arts, athletics, and areas of special interest to students. Extensive library and media services are provided at each school to support student learning.
