Positive results are being seen more and more from activities involving student and parent groups in the school lunch program. Our job as food service managers is to plan, prepare and serve nutritious meals within the requirements set forth in the National School Lunch Program regulations.
However, this is where our responsibility begins rather than ends. Actual consumption of the lunches determines whether the nutritional needs of children have been adequately met. Students’ enjoyment of these lunches is an important step in teaching good eating habits. Program experience has shown that student and parent involvement in the school lunch program has a positive effect on achieving these objectives by improving the overall acceptability of the school lunch and increasing participation levels.
Our goal as Shoreline School District's Food Service is to truly provide nutritious food in a "kid Friendly" environment and everyone have a little fun at the same time. Students' enjoyment of school lunch is an important step in teaching good eating habits and positive dietary practices for a lifetime of good health.
